Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born at Mvezo, Transkei, in south africa on July 18, 1918. His parents name is Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa & Noqaphi Nosekeni. His nick name is Rolihlahla. His father died in 1930 when he was 12 years old only and then he growup at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni. His school teacher(Miss Mdingane) gave him the nickname Nelson.

He attended the school at Clarkebury Boarding Institute and later college at the College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. Already, he start studying for an LL.B at the University of the
Witwatersrand.he was a penniless student and without graduating he left the university in 1952.


Nelson Mandela, already increasingly politically involved from 1942. He joined  the African National Congress (ANC)in 1944.

In 1952 he chose at the National Volunteer-in-Chief of the Defiance Campaign with his deputy Maulvi Cachalia .The end of 1952 he was banned for the first time. As a restricted person he just permitted to watch in secret the Freedom Charter was adopted in Kliptown on 26 June 1955.

Again in 1955, 5 december he was arrested in a countrywide police swoop.He went on trial for treason in 1956-1961 and also was acquitted in 1961.In 11 January 1962, using the use false name David Motsamayi and unobservedly he left south africa.He travelled whole  Africa and also visited England to gain boost for the armed struggle. He took military training in Ethiopia and Morocco and return his birth plase on south africa in 5 july 1962. In 5 August again he arrested in a police roadblock outside Howick when he returning from KwaZulu-Natal where he briefed ANC President Chief Albert Luthuli about his journey

He was charged for leaving the country illegally and inspiring workers to strike.He was convicted in a sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment.In 1963, 27 May he was transferred to Robben Island and 12 June returned to Pretoria..

In 1968 Nelson Mandela’s mother died and also 1969 his eldest son Thembi died. But he is not allowed to saw theres funerals.

He was released on Sunday 11 February 1990.In 1991 was elected ANC President to replace his unhealthy friend Oliver Tambo.

In 1993, Nelson Mandela  and President FW de Klerk jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize and on 27 April 1994, the first time he voted in his life.

Third Wife Graça Machel

On 10 May 1994 he was take the chair of South Africa’s first democratically elected President. In 1998 On his 80th birthday....again  he married Graça Machel (third wife).









He carry on to work with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (1995) and established the Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.

In 2007 his grandson Mandla Mandela became head of the Mvezo Traditional Council at the Mvezo Great Place.On the 5th of December 2013, Mandela passed away forever at 8.50pm at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, surrounded by his wife, Graça Machel and members
of his family. he never go from our heart.We love you NELSON MENDELA.
